Q: I've lost my password. How do I recover it?
Go to the recover password page and enter your email address.
Q: How do enchantments work?
Enchantments apply bonuses to the stats on everything you can wear or wield. (See What do the different stats mean?)
Q: How do enchanted items affect my abilities?
It depends on the specific ability. As an example, having armor of Spell Damage gives you higher Spell Damage, which causes magic to do more damage, so it's good to have that when using attack abilities like Lightning Ball that do magical damage. (See What do the different stats mean?)
Q: What do Cloth, Leather, and Metal equipment do?
Cloth, Leather, and Metal wearable items vary in their innate focus on Defense, so if you're wearing Cloth items of MaxMana it will not have that much Defense but the remaining stats on it will push towards giving you more Maximum Mana.

MaterialDescription
ClothLow Defense, mostly stats via enchantment
LeatherMedium Defense, medium stats via enchantment
MetalHigh Defense, low stats via enchantment
Q: What other kinds of weapons are currently being developed for the game?
WeaponDescription
SwordHigh Power, Current Speed, Current Range

Club/MaceHigh Power, Slow, Short Range
DaggerMedium-low power, Fast, Short range
Wand/StaffLow Power, high stats via enchantment

So, for example, if you want to do lots of damage and have more health you can try to find all Health and MeleeDamage armor and weapons. If you want to run fast and be miss less, you might choose Speed and Accuracy items. Etc.
Q: How do I get magic?
Press the abilities button on the bottom right of the screen and you can purchase special magical abilities.
Q: What are AP?
AP stands for Ability Points. You get AP every time you level up, and you can spend them learning abilities.
Q: How do I use magic/abilities?
First, you need to purchase and arm abilities. You choose the ability item, press 'arm', and click a slot on the bottom left into which you arm it. Then, clicking an ability slot or pressing the 1, 2, 3, or 4 keys will activate the ability chosen. Most abilities have a key combination that can be pressed to activate them as well. Some abilities require a secondary piece of equipment, like a shield. These requirements will be listed in the description in the shop and when you mouse over the ability icon.
Q: When do I get to use an ability again?
You can use an ability again when it has finished recharging, which is called it's 'cooldown'. Different abilities have different cooldown times. You can see a yellow bar over the ability when you use it, which indicates that the ability is cooling down. When the yellow bar goes away, the ability can be used again. You must have enough mana left to use a ability , and all abilities use up mana. You can get more mana by drinking elixirs or just waiting on a screen with no monsters.
Q: What are the numbers next to people's names in game?
Multiple people can have the same name in Shadowtale, but only the first one to pick it will be shown without a number. Further registrations with that name will have a number in parentheses after their name, based on how many people registered that name in the past. In the future we intend to have a system that allows you to choose a new unique name if you were not the first person to take a specific name.
Q: How do I save my game?
The game is automatically saved as you play the game and move from screen to screen. No other action is required.
Q: How do I change the appearance of my player?
Hair and skin tone are customizable at the beginning of the game when you create your character. You can change some of these aspects of your character at the barbershop in game as well. You may customize your look by equipping different types of clothing, armor, and weapons.
Q: How do I change my password?
You can change your password by clicking on the "Account" tab at the top of this page.
Q: How do I send messages to other players?
You can press the enter key, and then type your message. Press the enter key again to send it. Anyone in your screen will be able to see your message.

Q: How can I become a member?

Q: Help! I'm stuck in the game and can't figure out what to do next.
Try exploring areas you haven't been yet and speaking to in game characters. If that doesn't work, ask a higher level adventurer or use the forums to request assistance from other players.
Q: How can I change my name?
You cannot change your name at this time. We expect to support this feature at a future date.
Q: My XP won't go any higher. What do I do?
You have reached the game's temporary level cap. Like many other RPGs, as new content is released the game's level cap increases with it. This is done so that new quests and monsters are the right level of difficulty as they are released. Check the forums for information on when the next update is coming. We update the game frequently.
Q: I've completed all the quests. What now?
The Shadowtale development team releases new content all the time. The forums are a good source of information on coming updates. Check back soon!
Q: How do I get a house?
Kimia in Edgewood sells them.
Q: How do I go to my house?
Press the house button on the bottom of the screen.
Q: How do I get furniture for my house and rearrange it?
When you are in your house your furniture inventory shows up on the right side of the screen. There is also a lock button, a recycle icon, and a buy button. Press the buy button to purchase furniture. The lock button chooses whether or not furniture in your house is draggable with the mouse. Dragging furniture to the recycle icon will remove it from the house, but you will still own it and can place it in another room by pressing its icon.
Q: What are the chat commands?
You can type /re before your text (it's short for 'reply') to reply to the last person who whispered to you, or the person to whom you have just whispered.
